Providers: Millennials Going Old School, Want to Communicate by Text

This week I’m going decidedly low tech: texting. We’ve all done it; the 95% of us in the U.S. with a smartphone or basic cell phone, anyway.

Texting may not be the first line of communication providers think of, but it turns out their millennial patients prefer it over most other forms of contact. In fact, 75% of them want appointment and payment reminders via text.

The ubiquity of smartphones and the convenience of texting makes this a viable outreach approach for providers who want to reach millennial patients. Of the millennials surveyed, 60% said they’d rather text with a business because it’s easy, fast and convenient.

In addition, 92% plus of men and women in varying income ranges, from less than $30,000 to more than $75,000, have, at the very least, a basic cell phone, which started the texting craze years ago.

So hang up that phone and get off the landline. It’s time to flex your fingers and text your patients.
